Lead the Charge

Ryse: Son of Rome is an upcoming action-adventure video game in development by German studio Crytek and to be published by Microsoft Studios as an Xbox One exclusive game. The game will be released at the Xbox One launch. Players will be thrust into the brutal battlefields of Rome, leading their legion, and giving orders.



Gameplay
Ryse puts players in control of a Roman general named Marius Titus, who is an immensely efficent battlefield commander. Players will lead their soliders across the battlefield, fighting in brutal combat and giving their legion orders. Players will give their infantry commands, and utilizing quick time events to execute finishing moves while in combat. The developers have drawn inspiration of the game's tactics and combat from the innumerable Roman military campagins that led to the concept of total war.



Plot
Ryse: Son of Rome tells the story of the young Roman soldier Marius Titus who witnesses the murder of his family at the hands of barbarian bandits. Seeking revenge, he travels with the Roman army to Britannia where he proves himself a soldier of phenomenal skill and quickly rises through the ranks. As Marius leads the army against the barbarian horde, his quest unravels and he discovers that he must return to Rome to find his vengeance.

Features
Ryse Presents conflict in the Roman Empire, from the northern reaches of Britannia to the Coliseum and the very heart of Rome. Close-quaters combat that utilizes the use of swords, shields, and ranged weapons. Players will be able to block, and pull off executions. Battlefields will consist of more than 100 characters on screen simultaneously, with individually controlled AI. Ryse will also feature various Xbox SmartGlass features, including a Game DVR allowing the recording of live gameplay. Context-sensistive achievements that help provide game tips, and character management, inventory mangement, and character upgrades.



Mutliplayer
There will be a cooperative mutiplayer mode that allows players to fight in gladiator-style coliseum matches. Up to two players team up to fight waves of enemies in front of thousands of spectators. Ryse originally was going to ship with competitive mutltiplayer, but the feature was eventually scrapped.
